4-cylinder diesel engine

The new CLA has that special something – both in its looks and in its nature. The new direct-injection 4-cylinder diesel engine ensures the vehicle has the necessary power reserves, yet is efficient to drive. It demonstrates just the right qualities, impressing with hefty torque and immediately responsive at lower engine speeds too.

Yet at the same time, the CLA 220 CDI's diesel engine has modest fuel consumption, is low on emissions and impresses with its significantly improved quiet-running characteristics and reduced vibrations.

  • State-of-the-art technology: The fourth-generation common-rail diesel technology boasts an injection pressure that has been increased to 1800 bar, optimised combustion chambers and precise solenoid valve injectors. Improved ignition pressure and a turbocharger with a variable nozzle turbine ensure a high torque in every engine speed range.
  • Clean technology: Measures such as tyres with low rolling resistance, intelligently controlled ancillaries and optimised aerodynamics all help to sustainably increase the vehicle's efficiency.
  • Easy on the environment: The standard ECO start/stop function ensures that the engine is temporarily switched off if the vehicle is stationary, thereby saving fuel. In addition, the ECO display in the instrument cluster provides information about how efficient the driver's driving style is, prompting them to modify their behaviour and thereby reducing fuel consumption.

Figures in brackets apply to vehicles with automatic transmission

[1] Figures for rated output and rated torque in accordance with Directive 80/1269/EEC in the currently applicable version.

[2] The figures shown for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions were obtained in accordance with the prescribed measuring process (Regulation [EC] 715/2007 in its currently applicable version). The figures are not based on an individual vehicle and do not constitute part of the product offer; they are provided solely for purposes of comparison between different vehicle models.
