What began with PRE-SAFE® ten years ago and continued with DISTRONIC PLUS we have now advanced into a new dimension in driving: Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive – comfort and safety have now been fused. You can see it and feel it in the new GLA.
Thanks to networking – our safety experts called this "sensor fusion" - the intelligent assistance systems analyse complex situations and recognise potential traffic dangers better using sensors positioned all round the vehicle.

When the high beams are activated, Adaptive Highbeam Assist always provides the optimum headlamp range and prevents dazzling oncoming traffic. The driver hardly has to operate the high-beam switch any longer and is able to better focus on the driving tasks.

Active Parking Assist makes finding a parking space as well as parking and leaving a parallel or on-end parking space easier. It automatically steers the vehicle into parking spaces and spares the driver the steering and braking actions. Active Parking Assist is automatically engaged when driving forwards at speeds up to 35 km/h. If the vehicle travels slower than 30 km/h, the system indicates with a "P" symbol and a directional arrow in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster that it has located a suitable parking space. By default the system looks on the right side of the road, when the left-side turn indicator is activated also on the left side of the road.

COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST warns the driver visually and audibly of insufficient distance to the vehicle travelling ahead or of stationary objects. Adaptive Brake Assist helps the driver to brake to prevent rear-ending the vehicle travelling ahead. When travelling at speeds of more than 7 km/h, the system can recognise insufficient gaps to vehicles ahead. When the system detects the danger of a rear-end collision, it can emit a visual and acoustic warning to the driver.

The innovative driver assistance system automatically helps drivers to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front and unburdens them on long journeys and in stop-and-go traffic. COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS warns of falling below the safe following distance visually and audibly. In stop-and-go traffic, DISTRONIC PLUS applies the brakes automatically – if necessary, until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Automatic braking is applied with a deceleration of up to 5 m/s2 As soon as the traffic situation improves, DISTRONIC PLUS automatically accelerates back up to the preset speed if the driver presses briefly on the accelerator or flicks the cruise control lever. Only available in conjunction with 7G-DCT automatic transmission.

Cruise control with SPEEDTRONIC allows relaxed and fuel-saving driving especially on long journeys. In addition to the desired cruising speed the system also allow setting an individual top speed, for example, to safely comply with speed limits.

The system visualizes one of the major hazards in traffic. If a vehicle is detected in the blind spot, a red triangle appears in the exterior mirror. Should the driver fail to notice the visual clue and activate the turn indicator, the system issues an additional audible warning.
