The Audio 20 CD/Radio provides entertainment and can be optionally equipped with an integrated CD changer for 6 discs. It is operated through the multifunction steering wheel and also includes loudspeakers adjusted to match the vehicle interior

The system comes with a comprehensive equipment range, including, for example, a 14.7 cm colour display, CD player and telephone keypad. The system also features a Bluetooth® interface with hands-free function.

The system is equipped with 14 high-performance loudspeakers, which together with the ICEpower amplifier and the digital signal processor provide 1200 watts output. They combine outstanding technology with exclusive design to provide a truly impressive listening experience.

The listening pleasure provided by the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround system is equally possible on long journeys, without tiring the listener. This is thanks in large part to the Vehicle Noise Compensation feature, which dynamically compensates for road noise. The microphone built into the vehicle interior continuously delivers data on the current noise level in the interior. The digital sound processor analyses the frequency bands and increases the volume as required according to the vehicle's speed – and not just across the board, but individually to each speaker according to the different frequencies registered. The reason for this: The human ear can discern between diffuse secondary sounds, for example from airflow or from the tyres, and direct sounds, for example from the exhaust system when accelerating.

With the Becker® MAP PILOT it is possible to upgrade the Audio 20 CD radio, fitted as standard, to a full-function navigation system. The control unit can be secured and connected in the glove compartment in just a couple of simple steps, and can be removed at any time.

The digital radio (DAB) receives terrestrial digital radio stations via an additional roof aerial. It guarantees better reception quality, offers a larger choice of stations and relays more precise information. Switching between analogue and digital reception is automatic, according to signal strength. The DAB tuner supports not only DAB signals but also the DAB+ and DMB standards.

As the digital broadcast areas are still being developed, however, the digital signal is not yet available in some regions. In this case, the tuner fades out the radio signal and automatically switches to the appropriate FM frequency until DAB reception is available again. The COMAND Online multimedia system’s radio menu allows manual changing from digital mode to analogue mode.

The Rear Seat Entertainment System consists of a DVD player, two 20.3 centimetre screens built into the front head restraints, two sets of wireless headphones and a remote control. A line-in connection additionally makes it possible to link up a games console. In this way the system ensures that passengers in the rear do not get bored, even on long journeys.

The optional Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround sound system with Dolby Digital 5.1 and an output of 830 watts turns every journey into an acoustic experience.

Fourteen high-performance speakers and the Logic 7® multi-channel surround sound technology provide a three-dimensional sound impression. The automatic volume control adapts the sound in line with the car’s current speed.

All you need for convenience telephony is the Mercedes-Benz head unit with screen, a compatible mobile phone and a cradle to connect your phone to the exterior aerial via a fixed interface in the centre console.

The integrated Bluetooth® interface allows wireless interaction with a compatible mobile phone and makes hands-free telephony possible. The functions of your phone can be accessed via the screen – incoming text messages can also be displayed here. And if you want to make a call, you can dial your contact intuitively and with confidence using the control unit.

The optimised Media Interface, including the consumer cable kit, provides a solution for connecting portable media players in the centre console which cannot be connected via the standard USB mass storage device. This includes the Apple iPod® und iPhone® as well as media players with Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), for example, from Creative, Philips, Sandisk, Samsung or Sony. The system makes it easy to read additional information such as track title, album, artist etc. (where available) on the vehicle's main display.

The COMAND Online multimedia system is the highlight of the new telematics generation. This innovative system features an Internet browser and combines all audio, telephone and navigation functions. The optimised control concept makes operation more user-friendly and intelligent than ever before.

The digital ViaMichelin travel guide, which includes the ViaMichelin restaurant guide, is an optional extra with the COMAND Online multimedia system and is available in five languages covering 36 European countries. It gives extensive information on restaurants, hotels, points of interest and tourist routes.

The search function makes it easy and quick to locate points of interest nearby or at the destination. Grading symbols from the ViaMichelin help the user to select restaurants, hotels, points of interest and tourist routes. The software also provides other multimedia information (audio files, images and texts) on the ViaMichelin POIs. The travel guide contents can be updated free of charge via the Mercedes-Benz portal.

On the large COMAND Online display, the passenger can enjoy a film with superb picture quality while the driver, for example, has an eye on instructions from the navigation system. This is made possible by SPLITVIEW, which can show different content on the same display at the same time.

The Bluetooth® telephone module with SAP profile is an enhancement to comfort telephony. It enables a mobile phone to be connected through the Bluetooth® SAP profile (SIM access profile) or for it to be directly operated by inserting the SIM card in the built-in SIM card reader.

Overview of the functions::

The TV tuner makes it possible to watch television during driving breaks: the receiver unit processes digital signals and is controlled through the COMAND Online multimedia system; the picture is shown in the system's display, which is positioned in the driver’s central field of vision.

Sound output is via the vehicle's speaker system. The receiving aerial is integrated in the rear window. At speeds above approx. 6 km/h, the image is switched off for safety reasons and reappears when the speed falls below this limit.
