The Audio 5 USB audio system provides entertainment. It comprises a radio with tuned loudspeakers as well as USB- and Aux-in sockets in the centre console to enable the portable devices to be connected. The COMAND Online multimedia system (optionally supplied with a 6-disc DVD changer) is the highlight of the new telematics generation. It features an internet browser, combines all audio, telephone and navigation functions, and in addition includes the Speed Limit Assist system. Speed Limit Assist uses an integrated camera to identify the speed limits on road signs and show the permitted maximum speed on the central display. The system also compares identified speed limits against the data stored in the navigation system. | |
The digital radio (DAB) receives terrestrial digital radio stations via a roof aerial. This gives the user better reception quality, a larger choice of stations and more precise information. Switching between analogue and digital reception is automatic, according to signal strength. The DAB tuner supports not only DAB signals but also the DAB+ and DMB standards. | |
With the Mercedes-Benz Drive Kit for the iPhone®, an iPhone® 4/4S can be connected to the radio's Audio 5 USB. The holder, which can be adjusted to suit personal preferences (iPhone® in vertical or horizontal position), is located on the instrument panel and holds the phone securely. With it, it is possible to operate the iPhone® as well as access contacts names and numbers through the navigation and audio hardware in the vehicle. Options such as volume control and track selection can be managed via the steering wheel buttons. The Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone® links your iPhone® 4 or 4S to your A-Class, providing a new user interface with revolutionary graphic design and clear, red illuminated symbols. Available free of charge from the Apple® iTunes® store, the Digital DriveStyle app allows you to access key content on your iPhone safely when driving. Easily visible on your COMAND Online or Audio 20 display, the app is straightforward to operate using the controller on the centre armrest. With a flat menu structure and magnified view to suit the vehicle, content is divided into "Social", "Media" and "Places" categories for quick access to functions. There is an interface in the glove compartment for connecting and charging your iPhone®.

All you need for convenience telephony is the Mercedes-Benz head unit with screen, a compatible mobile phone and a cradle to connect your phone to the exterior aerial via a fixed interface in the centre console. The optimised Media Interface, including the consumer cable kit, provides a solution for connecting portable media players in the centre console which cannot be connected via the standard USB mass storage device.This includes the iPod® und iPhone® as well as media players with Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), for example, from Creative, Philips, Sandisk, Samsung or Sony. The system makes it easy to read additional information such as track title, album, artist etc. (where available) on the vehicle's main display. The digital ViaMichelin travel guide, which includes the ViaMichelin restaurant guide, is an optional extra with the COMAND Online multimedia system and is available in five languages covering 36 European countries. It gives extensive information on restaurants, hotels, points of interest and tourist routes. The search function makes it easy and quick to locate POIs (points of interest) nearby or at the destination. Grading symbols from the ViaMichelin help the user to select restaurants, hotels, points of interest and tourist routes. The software also provides other multimedia information (audio files, images and texts) on the ViaMichelin POIs. The travel guide contents can be updated free of charge via the Mercedes-Benz portal. | |
The Bluetooth® telephone module with SAP profile is an enhancement to comfort telephony. It enables a mobile phone to be connected through the Bluetooth® SAP profile (SIM access profile) or for it to be directly operated by inserting the SIM card in the built-in SIM card reader.
