The active multicontour seat adjusts particularly well to individual seating needs. It continually adjusts itself to the driving situation, massages the back muscles and reduces the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

Depending on the steering angle, lateral acceleration and speed, the air cushions in the seat side bolsters are adjusted pneumatically in two stages so as to give excellent lateral support even when driving dynamically. After the dynamic function is switched off the previously selected pressure in the side chambers is automatically reset symmetrically.

The Driving Assistance Package PLUS incorporates DISTRONIC PLUS, the Brake Assist system BAS PLUS, the PRE-SAFE® brake, as well as the new Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist functions.

The DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control system helps the driver to maintain a specified distance from the vehicle in front when travelling at speeds of 0 to 200 km/h.

The BAS PLUS braking assistance system can help reduce the stopping distance in an emergency situation. The PRE-SAFE® brake complements the system with its automatic braking function which applies the brakes automatically if the radar* detects the danger of a collision. Around 2.6 seconds before the registered possible rear-end collision it emits a visual and acoustic warning, circa 1.6 seconds before the impending impact it initiates a braking manoeuvre if the driver has not reacted to the warnings. Then about 0.6 seconds before an impact it recognises as unavoidable it causes an autonomous full brake application if the driver has not reacted yet.

The Active Blind Spot Assist system uses radar to monitor the blind spot areas to the left, right and rear of the vehicle in the speed range 30 to 250 km/h. If a vehicle is detected within the monitored range, a warning symbol is displayed in the driver’s exterior mirror. Should the driver fail to notice the warning and start to change lane, the ESP® system can intervene.

Active Lane Keeping Assist continuously identifies lane markings on the road. Should the vehicle drift over a line or marking in an uncontrolled manner, Active Lane Keeping Assist can respond by initiating active independent braking.

KEYLESS-GO is an electronic drive authorisation system. The driver does not need a key to unlock or start the vehicle. The driver only needs to carry the KEYLESS-GO chip card and pull the door handle. Simply pressing the start/stop button with the brake pedal depressed starts the car.

With the convenience tailgate locking function, the tailgate can be opened and closed either with the key or a switch in the driver’s side door panel. It can also be closed by means of a button in the tailgate itself.

The memory package makes frequent change of drivers much easier. It stores the individual settings for the driver's seat, steering wheel and exterior mirrors for up to three people.

As soon as a driver selects a setting by pressing a button, electric controls automatically set the seat, exterior mirrors and steering column back to the previously saved positions.

The four-way lumbar support provides even more comfort. At the push of a button, the backrest curvature of the front seats can be set to meet individual passenger requirements and provide anatomically appropriate support for the spine in the lumbar area.

The automatic dimming function for the exterior mirror on the driver’s side helps to enhance safety and comfort.

Both exterior mirrors can also be completely folded in electrically and returned to their original position. Whether you’re negotiating narrow entries and exits, parking the car or passing through automatic car washes, this preventive protection of the mirror casing helps you to minimise repair costs.

The innovative Lane Tracking package is comprised of Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist and significantly enhances safety in road traffic.

Lane Keeping Assist can detect a traffic lane based on the road markings and, if the car is about to leave its lane unintentionally, warn the driver by making the steering wheel vibrate gently. If the indicator is operated beforehand or the steering wheel is consciously turned, the system assumes that the lane change is intentional and does not issue a warning.

Blind Spot Assist, meanwhile, uses two radar sensors in the rear bumper to monitor the blind spot at speeds above 30 km/h and can warn the driver against dangerous lane changes if another road user is present in the critical area to the right or left of the vehicle.
