Thanks to a combination of sophisticated shock absorbers, coil springs and precise axle location of the rigid axles, the G-Class can master every kind of terrain. Unlike independent suspension, when a wheel of the G-Class rolls over an obstacle such as a large stone, the axle housing is automatically lifted with it.
The G-Class can master gradients of up to 80 %, remains stable on transversal slopes of up to 54 % and can drive through water with a depth of up to 0.5 metres.
The G-Class is equally at home on the road thanks to its supreme handling based on perfect harmonisation between the chassis, transmission, powertrain and wheel suspension. Enhanced safety and stability are provided by the Electronic Stability Program (ESPĀ®) and Brake Assist (BAS). The G-Class is the only vehicle in the world to offer the Electronic Traction System (4ETS) as well as three fully lockable differentials.
