The active multicontour seat adjusts particularly well to individual seating needs. It continually adjusts itself to the driving situation, massages the back muscles and reduces the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

Depending on the steering angle, lateral acceleration and speed, the air cushions in the seat side bolsters are adjusted pneumatically in two stages so as to give excellent lateral support even when driving dynamically. After the dynamic function is switched off the previously selected pressure in the side chambers is automatically reset symmetrically.

The CLS 63 AMG can be individualised further still with the AMG exterior carbon-fibre package. This stylish-looking, high-quality lightweight material can be found in the deflectors on the front apron, the exterior mirror casings, the AMG spoiler lip and the rear apron and conveys a touch of the professional motor sports spirit.

AIRMATIC provides ride comfort and driving dynamics at the highest level. The air suspension system works in combination with a fully automatic damping adjustment which continually adjusts to the driving situation and provides excellent road roar and tyre vibration characteristics even when the road is only slightly bumpy. In addition the vehicle can be raised on poor or unfavourable stretches of road to increase ground clearance. When driving continually at a high speed the vehicle is automatically lowered. This improves handling and reduces wind resistance - an additional contribution to reducing fuel consumption.

The sports suspension enhances the dynamic appearance of the vehicle, while the tauter suspension and damper settings make an even sportier driving style possible without major loss of ride comfort.

When parking or looking for a parking space, the driver can call on the assistance of the optional Active Parking Assist, including PARKTRONIC. The system uses ultrasound sensors to determine whether the length of a parking space is adequate. The driver initiates the parking manoeuvre by placing the vehicle in front of the parking space, engaging reverse and confirming the process with the instrument cluster. The Active Parking Assist system takes charge of the parking manoeuvre in the chosen parking space by means of steering motors (acting at speeds below 10 km/h). All the driver needs to do is operate accelerator and brake pedals.

Using an integrated camera, the Speed Limit Assist system (available only in conjunction with Audio 50 APS or COMAND Online) can identify road signs and show the permitted maximum speed on the central display. This can reduce the danger of overlooking a speed limit, particularly on stretches of road with frequently changing traffic signs or along routes with road works. In order to verify the data retrieved via optical sensors and the following display, the system compares the values registered with the digital road maps of the navigation system.

The dynamic LED High Performance headlamps in conjunction with an LED daytime running lamp strip in the bumper cover are innovative aspects of the vehicle light array. The novel, unmistakable design of the LED high performance headlamps underscores the dynamism of the vehicle design, lending the front a particularly high value appeal.

In the dark, the headlamps are unmistakable on account of the C-shaped LED side-marker lamps. The LED technology, used by Mercedes-Benz for the CLS for the very first time, combines maximum radiance with minimal energy consumption and a long lifetime. What’s more, the light produced by the LED high-performance headlamps is very easy on the eyes, as its colour temperature of 5500 Kelvin renders it closer to daylight than the light produced by xenon headlamps.

Night View Assist Plus improves visibility in the dark without making use of the main-beam headlamps.

A camera scans the road illuminated by an anti-dazzle infrared headlamp and transmits a grey-scale image to the multifunction display. This helps the driver to identify obstacles, insufficiently lit road users and the course of unlit roads more effectively and at an earlier stage.

In addition, pedestrians identified by the system can be highlighted and seen more clearly thanks to the pedestrian recognition function.

The rear-view camera (only available in conjunction with COMAND Online) offers convenience and added safety. Integrated in the boot lid, the camera transmits an image of the area behind the vehicle to the COMAND screen. The camera image not only makes parking easier but also aids in manoeuvring on difficult terrain.

The Audio 50 APS radio navigation system is equipped with a CD/DVD player and telephone keypad and can be operated using the multifunction steering wheel.

The navigation provides arrow-based directions in an easy-to-read colour display. Connecting a mobile telephone via the Bluetooth® interface provides the option of using the system’s hands-free function. LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system is integrated in conjunction with the optional DVD changer and allows for comfortable voice-operated control of the audio, telephone and navigation functions while driving.

The COMAND Online multimedia system is the highlight of the new telematics generation. This innovative system features an Internet browser and combines all audio, telephone and navigation functions. The optimised control concept makes operation more user-friendly and intelligent than ever before.

An additional aerial is used for digital radio (DAB). This provides improved reception at near-CD quality, a broader selection of stations, as well as more detailed programme and traffic information.

Switching between analogue and digital reception is automatic according to network coverage and signal strength.

The optional Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround sound system with Dolby Digital 5.1 and an output of 610 watts turns every journey into an acoustic experience.

Fourteen high-performance speakers and the Logic 7® multi-channel surround sound technology provide a three-dimensional sound impression. The automatic volume control adapts the sound in line with the car’s current speed.

All you need for the optional convenience telephony is the Mercedes-Benz head unit with screen, a compatible mobile phone and a cradle to connect your phone to the exterior aerial via a fixed interface in the centre console.

The integrated Bluetooth® interface allows wireless interaction with a compatible mobile phone. You can also use the charging function to charge your mobile phone. The functions of your phone can be accessed via the screen. Incoming text messages can also be displayed here. And if you want to make a call, you can select your contact safely and intuitively using the control unit.

The Media Interface with consumer cable kit is a universal interface in the centre console used to connect mobile audio/video devices to the radio or multimedia system.

You can comfortably access a USB stick, for example, or your iPod® using the vehicle’s control and display units.

The TV tuner enables television viewing during driving breaks. The receiver unit processes both analogue and digital signals and is controlled using the COMAND Online multimedia system, whose display is positioned in the driver’s central field of vision and also shows the image.

Sound output is via the vehicle’s speaker system. The receiving aerial is integrated in the rear window. At speeds above approx. 6 km/h, the image is switched off for safety reasons and reappears when the speed falls below this limit.

The ambient lighting provides a pleasant indirect lighting effect inside the vehicle at night. Luminous surfaces on the instrument panel and under the door trim elements create an incomparable atmosphere.

In addition, fibre-optic cables and LEDs which are controlled independently of the background light make it easier to find your way around the vehicle when it’s dark outside. Exclusive ambient lighting, which can be dimmed to any level and has the three colour schemes of "solar" (amber-coloured), "neutral" (white) and "polar" (ice blue), emphasises the interior design to ensure pleasant light conditions for night driving.

With the remote boot lid closing function the boot lid can be opened and closed with the key or with a switch in the driver’s door panelling. The boot lid can additionally be closed via a switch in the boot lid.

The THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system allows the driver and front passenger to adapt the climate in their respective seats to suit their individual requirements – independently of each other. The system keeps the temperature at the desired level automatically, even in strong sunlight. To this end, sensors register the temperature inside and outside the vehicle, controlling the heating, cooling and fan for each temperature zone individually, according to requirements.

The climatised seats improve ride comfort and reduce transpiration thanks to a pleasant air flow and selectable seat heating. Fans integrated in the seat upholstery uniformly distribute a flow of air in three intensity levels under the leather backrest and cushion covers. The air flows through the fine perforation and quickly cools the surface of the seats to a pleasant temperature – even if the vehicle has been heated by an intense amount of sunlight for a longer period of time.
