The AMG high-performance composite brake system delivers impressive deceleration figures, precision pedal response, perfect fading resistance and superior safety reserves. 390 x 26 mm front brake discs ensure outstanding deceleration. As always with AMG, the brake discs on the front axle are based on composite technology tested in motorsport.

The power transmission in the SLS AMG Roadster is delivered by the new AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission, located at the rear axle in a transaxle arrangement and connected to the engine via the rigid torque tube. Four drive modes and the Race Start function provide variety depending on the road conditions and the driver's sporty ambition.

The AMG sports suspension in the SLS AMG Roadster delivers uncompromising racetrack performance. It employs a double wishbone suspension concept – proven in motorsport – on all four wheels.

Spring struts specially developed and adapted for the SLS AMG and the separation of wheel control and suspension ensure outstanding road contact during high lateral acceleration and a significant reduction in pitching when accelerating and braking. This way, the best possible road surface contact is maintained, even when performance is pushed to the limit.

The long wheelbase (2680 mm) supports directional stability and the wide track (1682 mm at the front and 1651 mm at the back) reduces wheel load displacement on winding roads.

To meet the expectations associated with a supercar and maintain control of the vehicle even in the most demanding sporty driving situations, AMG sports parameter steering has been integrated in the SLS AMG Roadster.

This speed-sensitive power steering delivers a direct steering experience. It also enhances driver feedback as the vehicle speed increases – a crucial factor when driving fast on straight roads.

Motorsport technology. The drive shaft is crafted from carbon fibre – as used in the Mercedes-Benz C-Class DTM racing touring car. A key advantage of this high-technology material: Delivering superb stability, the carbon shaft weighs a mere 4 kg – 50% lighter than its steel counterpart.

The bodyshell of the SLS AMG Roadster consists of a very lightweight aluminium space frame that is extremely torsionally rigid. This exclusive design combines intelligent lightweight construction with outstanding strength, enabling dynamic handling at the highest level.

It goes without saying that the aluminium space frame meets all passive safety and body quality requirements specified for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

The bi-xenon headlamps provide higher brightness values, a larger range of light and wider illumination of the road surface than conventional headlamps. In addition, the LED daytime driving lights and the LED indicators make the vehicle more visible to other road users. Extendable high-pressure nozzles allow the headlamps to be cleaned while the car is in motion.

Brake Assist (BAS) can protect against accidents by identifying emergency braking situations based on the speed the brake pedal is depressed and then automatically building up full braking power.

The anti-lock braking system (ABS) then meters the braking power up to the slip threshold, which is how steering control is maintained. Once the driver releases the brake pedal, automatic brake boosting is immediately terminated.

A large number of components supporting the integrated ADAPTIVE BRAKE system contribute to active safety. The latter increases driving comfort and safety, on the one hand, by working together with the ASR, ESP®, ABS und BAS dynamic control systems to make it easier to perform critical manoeuvres successfully, and on the other hand, through its comfort functions, helping deal with demanding handling situations.

Hill-start assist prevents the vehicle from rolling unintentionally on inclines when switching from brake to accelerator. The "brake drying" function ensures that full braking power is available, even in wet conditions. The "priming" function enables the system to reduce brake response time.

The SLS AMG Roadster features a 3-stage ESP® system with sports function as standard. Three mode settings are available: "ESP® ON", "ESP® SPORT" and "ESP® OFF".

If "ESP® ON" is activated and an unstable driving scenario is identified, the system can initiate braking at one or more wheels, and reduce torque.

"ESP® SPORT" uses selective over/understeer intervention and parallel torque alignment to enable even more dynamic handling, including larger drift angles.

"ESP® OFF" mode deactivates dynamic intervention and does not restrict engine output. This setting is designed for a more sporty driving style on closed circuits (not for public roads). The ASR (acceleration skid control) traction logic function remains active in all three ESP® modes.

The electronic parking aid PARKTRONIC monitors the front and rear of the vehicle during manoeuvring and warns the driver when it detects a potential collision.

The COMAND APS multimedia system is a comprehensive entertainment and navigation package for your vehicle. The innovative system combines all the audio settings, telephone functions and the navigation system and can be conveniently operated via the central controller.

Overview of equipment:

The SLS AMG Roadster features a rear aerofoil to eliminate lift on the rear axle at high speeds. When your road speed reaches 120 km/h, it extends automatically and retracts when your speed falls below 80 km/h. It can also be activated manually via the AMG DRIVE UNIT.

Enjoy the jet-inspired design of the new E-SELECT selector lever for the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission. The driver can choose between P, R, N and D modes by simply touching lightly on the drive-by-wire system.

If the vehicle is stationary, the park position is activated by simply pressing the P button – this also happens automatically when the engine is switched off. The rotary control switch for drive modes (including the Race Start function) and buttons for engine start, ESP® functions, AMG memory function and the extendable rear spoiler are also located here.

The AMG instrument cluster (including AMG main menu and RACETIMER), with two round instruments sure to appeal to purists, is the heart of the control unit.

The KEYLESS-GO start-up function makes starting the SLS AMG Roadster much easier. The vehicle is locked/unlocked automatically by simply pressing a button on the transponder. The engine is started using the central start/stop button on the AMG DRIVE UNIT in the cockpit.

The new SLS AMG Roadster also meets the expectations placed on a Mercedes/AMG supercar regarding climate comfort and control. THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control is included as standard to ensure a pleasant atmosphere in the vehicle interior. It enables the temperature to be controlled separately for driver and passenger.
