The new B-Class’s driving characteristics can be perfectly tuned to individual requirements with the standard-specification configuration of the comfort suspension and steering or with the optional combination of the sports suspension and Direct-Steer system.
Comfort suspension The standard-fit suspension of the new B-Class features comfortable spring characteristics and a tried-and-tested damping system for high handling safety. The newly designed chassis of the new B-Class incorporates innovative components such as the 4-link rear axle, the Torque Vectoring Brake and the electric parking brake. Adequate spring travel, friction-optimised support length and exact compensation of transverse forces make for comfortable elasticity. The tuning of the twin-tube gas-pressure shock absorbers on the front axle has been optimised with regard to driving safety and driving dynamics. In addition noise from the chassis has been significantly reduced using special plastic components between the axle and body. That means that driving in the new B-Class is always peaceful and comfortable. |

Direct-Steer system (optional)[1] The Direct-Steer system forming part of the Sports package complements the suspension with a variable ratio depending on the steering wheel angle, thus ensuring that the steering movements can implement an even more immediate response on the road. It significantly reduces the steering effort required, in tight bends, for instance, or when parking. The straight-line stability, meanwhile, is especially stable at high speeds and the feedback which the driver receives on the driving situation is particularly precise. Not only does this mean that vehicle agility and steering comfort are improved; the Direct-Steer system also adds up to more driving enjoyment. |

Sports suspension (optional)[1] The sports suspension with selective damping system blends agility and ride comfort, with the shock absorbers automatically adjusting to suit the driving situation and the condition of the road surface. The springs and dampers have more sportily taut tuning than the standard-specification suspension, whilst the level of the car is 15 mm lower, which reduces rolling movements and increases driving stability. |
