There are three transmission systems in total which are available for the new GLA and its AMG model, and they have already been very successfully deployed in other models of the new generation of compact vehicles from Mercedes-Benz. The transmission systems are perfectly aligned to the power output, as well as to the many and varied demands the new GLA is expected to meet, and they set standards with regard to shift comfort and efficiency.
Equipment availability depends on the engine and configuration selected. You will find details in the equipment information for each model.
With its short and direct shift throws the 6-speed manual gearbox makes swift gear changes possible while providing a high level of shift comfort. The advantages at a glance:
Only available for the GLA 200 CDI and GLA 200.
The dual clutch transmission combines the comfort of a 7-speed automatic transmission with the dynamic handling of a manual gearbox. It makes fast and smooth gear changes without interruptions in tractive power possible. The shift characteristics can be preselected from fuel-saving to sporty. To this end the transmission has the three transmission modes “Economy“, "Sport“ and "Manual“. With the DIRECT SELECT selector lever on the steering column the driver engages P, R, N and D while keeping both hands on the steering wheel.
This dual clutch transmission system excites with its immediate response when changing gear: shift times are extremely short and there is no interruption to tractive power. Seven gears, three drive programs, double-declutching and the RACE START function provide exhilarating dynamic handling yet low fuel consumption. Thanks to technology transfer the reaction and shift times in the "M" manual drive program are comparable with those of the SLS AMG GT super sports car. The deployment of carbon fibre synchroniser rings plays a part here. |
