Using this service allows the reception of up-to-date and precise traffic information for optimised dynamic route guidance and a more accurate estimated time of arrival. Data transfer is via a communication module using a fast mobile internet connection.

Live Traffic Information registers and transmits a large amount of traffic data from various sources. These are available within seconds of starting the vehicle, and are updated every two to three minutes via the existing mobile phone connection.

Thanks to detailed information about any potential delays, their causes and above all their direct effect on the planned route, the driver can make an informed decision on whether to opt for an alternative route suggested by the system.

If you set up your workplace in the rear of the new S-Class, you won't really need another office.The integrated WLAN Hotspot lets you establish an internet connection for using WLAN-capable devices in the vehicle (internet use via WLAN requires mobile phone).

24 specially designed speakers, 24 amplifier channels with a total system output of 1540 watts, as well as technologies developed specifically for the vehicle, ensure an extraordinarily expressive and intriguing 3D sound – the Burmester "feel-good sound".

With this 3D surround sound, passengers are able to experience and enjoy mono, stereo and 5.1 music signals three-dimensionally. This is done with the help of special Burmester algorithms and three speakers integrated into the roof liner. The VIP setting makes it possible to adjust the sound individually for the driver, front passenger and passengers on the left and right in the rear. To suit personal tastes, individual sound adjustments can be made with the five sound presets "Pure", "Easy Listening", "Live", "Surround" and "3D Surround".

In addition to the acoustic highlights, the Burmester® High-End 3D Surround Sound system impresses with visual effects: Two tweeters installed in the mirror triangles of the front doors move into the most favourable position when the system is switched on, lighting up in one of seven freely selectable colours if the ambience lighting is active.

Thanks to highly advanced noise compensation technology (VNC) the sound quality is maintained despite driving noises, so that the best possible musical enjoyment is guaranteed at all times – whether on the motorway or in town.. The Burmester® Surround Sound system combines digital and analogue filters. The deliberate use of analogue crossovers in the medium- and high-frequency ranges makes for an extraordinarily expressive, natural 3D sound.

The handset with touchscreen serves both as a telephone and as a remote control for the seat functions of the optional Rear-Seat Comfort package. Depending on specifications the receiver is located in a cradle in the rear armrest or the centre console, which automatically charges it.

Operation is intuitive using four keys and a touchscreen. Text, numbers and symbols can be rapidly and easily entered using the on-screen keyboard. The system has its own hands-free zone in the rear, and allows call transfer from the rear to the front and vice versa.

The telephony function requires that a mobile phone is connected to COMAND Online or the Individual Entertainment system in the rear via Bluetooth®. Depending on the Bluetooth® profiles of the mobile phone, contacts, text messages and emails, as well as other functionalities, can be displayed on the handset.

Navigation, telephone, audio, video, internet – with the COMAND Online control and display system the driver keeps these and many other functions in sight and under control. Information is shown on a 31.2-cm high-resolution colour display. Operation is intuitive.

A fast hard-drive-based navigation with realistic topographical map display guides you stress-free to your destination. In combination with a suitable mobile phone it is possible to call up internet pages when the vehicle is stationary, and to use Mercedes-Benz apps such as POI search, weather or internet radio while driving. An integrated WLAN hotspot also allows integration of a notebook or tablet PC. A DVD player, radio, 10 GB memory for audio and video files and ports for connecting external devices provide entertainment made to measure.

Traffic Sign Assist makes a particular contribution to safety. It is able to recognise speed limits, "no-entry" and "no-overtaking" signs and their cancellation, and show them in the instrument cluster. Other highlights of COMAND Online include the LINGUATRONIC voice control system, a Bluetooth® interface with hands-free function, a read/write function for text messages and emails and music transmission via audio-streaming.

An auxiliary aerial and a digital receiver allow listening to terrestrial broadcasts of digital radio programmes. DAB digital radio offers excellent reception quality and valuable additional information about e.g. traffic or the radio programme.

Switching between analogue and digital reception is automatic according to network coverage and signal strength. The radio menu in the COMAND system gives the option of manually switching from digital to analogue mode. The DAB tuner supports both DAB signals and also the DAB+ and DMB standards. The signals are received through an additional roof aerial.

The digital radio (DAB) has the following functions:

DVD films, internet, video games, music – the Individual Entertainment system gives passengers in the rear their very personal entertainment programme. Two 25.4-cm displays and wireless headphones provide brilliant picture and sound quality.

The displays in the backs of the driver's and front passenger's seats can be operated individually without the need for the front occupants to be involved. It is possible to access every media source (radio, TV, media, internet, navigation, entertainment, DVD drive, devices connected via USB) from any seat in the vehicle.

It is also possible to use other, external audio and video resources (for example, MP3 players, USB sticks, Apple devices such as iPod®, iPad® and also games consoles) via the two USB slots and analogue AUX-in jacks in the rear seat armrest.

A universal interface in the armrest lets you connect mobile phones conveniently to the vehicle's speaker phone. To do so, just insert the mobile phone into the a phone cradle (accessory) matching the device.

A universal interface in the centre console lets you easily connect portable media players such as iPod® or iPhone®. The audio and video contents are thus conveniently controlled and reproduced first-class via the infotainment systems of the vehicle.

The audio content of these devices can then be reproduced through the vehicle's audio system. Operation, through the controller or steering wheel buttons, is simple and safe. Additional information such as the track title, album, performer etc. (where available) can be shown on the vehicle's displays and video content shown on the COMAND Online screen.

The ViaMichelin travel and restaurant guide provides extensive information about restaurants, hotels, tourist attractions and routes 36 European countries. By inserting an SD memory card the data can be accessed via COMAND Online and used for navigation.

The touchscreen telephone handset in the rear seat armrest acts as a telephone and control unit for the luxury seat functions in the rear. The handset can be used for private conversations as well as for hands-free telephony in the rear.

This feature allows the connection of a mobile phone using the Bluetooth® SAP (SIM Access Profile) protocol or direct operation by inserting a SIM card into the integral SIM card reader. Use of the vehicle's external aerial ensures better reception.

Watching TV in excellent picture quality and with a large programme selection – the TV receiver makes this also possible in the vehicle. It receives digital stations broadcasting in DVB-T standard and allows access to additional information, such as e.g. electronic TV magazines or video text.
