Harmony takes up the reins where there's no place for abrupt movements. So it is with the new S-Class: Its automatic transmission system changes gear imperceptibly, even when driving dynamically. Disturbing noises and vibrations are, equally, reduced to a minimum. And all with the objective of conveying its passengers in total comfort to their destination.
The 7-speed automatic transmission combines a high level of comfort with driving pleasure and efficiency. It impresses with smooth operation and rapid gearshifts. At the same time, the 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission contributes to reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The seven forward gears ensure smaller shifts in engine speed and an optimal engine speed range. The integral ECO start/stop function turns the engine off at traffic lights or in a traffic jam, and starts it up again.

Fast laps, dynamic acceleration manoeuvres, fuel-saving progress: this automatic transmission impresses with diversity and efficiency. This is ensured by three transmission modes, seven gears and the AMG aluminium steering-wheel shift paddles. The "S" (Sport), "C" (Controlled Efficiency) and "M" (Manual) transmission modes each have different gear-change characteristics and speeds:
