ECO start/stop function What's the best way to save fuel and reduce emission levels? By switching off the engine whenever it's not needed. Engine off when the vehicle is stationary, engine on when you release the brake. This is normal procedure in our vehicles. Automatically switching off the engine when stationary, for example in tailbacks or at traffic lights, lowers fuel consumption and emissions and saves fuel costs. The ECO start/stop function operates particularly effectively, quickly and quietly.
Intelligent energy management Significant savings can also come from a series of small contributions. With the objective of making the new C-Class Saloon more economical, the Mercedes-Benz engineers examined all major assemblies regarding their energy requirements. They developed methods of making these assemblies work more efficiently. Overview of efficient energy management measures: Efficient alternator management: Kinetic energy generated when braking and coasting is used to charge the battery. More efficient fuel management: The pressure of the fuel pump is aligned with the current fuel requirement. On-demand air conditioning: If there is no requirement to cool the engine, the compressor is automatically decoupled from the engine’s belt drive.
Environmentally sustainable When it comes to environmental compatibility, the new C-Class Saloon occupies a leading position – from development and production to vehicle operation and recycling at the end of a long service life. Environmental compatibility highlights: We use engines that combine superior performance with exemplary efficiency and comply with the Euro 6 emissions standard. The C 220 BlueTEC BlueEFFICIENCY Edition gives you a particularly eco-friendly drive with the ECO Technology package. We have achieved weight reductions on the body, chassis, transmission and interior equipment. We improved the drag coefficient (Cd) to as low as 0.24 compared with the previous series. The vehicle's interior and exterior lighting largely uses energy-saving and durable LED technology (according to model).
Tyres with optimised rolling resistance The rolling resistance of the tyres has a big influence on a vehicle's consumption. That's why Mercedes-Benz also uses tyres with low rolling resistance in the new C-Class Saloon. They are formed in a different way and use a different rubber blend than conventional tyres. With unchanged handling and braking characteristics, the rolling resistance can be markedly reduced with them.
Ratio-optimised transmission The 7-speed automatic transmission combines a high level of comfort with driving pleasure and efficiency. It impresses with smooth operation and rapid gearshifts. At the same time, the 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission contributes to reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Optimised 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission control achieves a consistently adapted engine speed. In conjunction with the standard-specification ECO start/stop function, which turns off the engine when the vehicle is stationary, the fuel consumption is significantly reduced.
