What would happen if your vehicle could adapt automatically to your driving style? It would reduce damping for a relaxed driving style. If you were driving quickly, it would stiffen up the shock absorbers and stabilise the car. Automatic personalisation doesn't get any better.

This suspension system, which has a selective passive damping system, provides all-round ride comfort on any road surface. The vehicle is lowered by 15 millimeters, improving handling on bends in particular, and giving the vehicle a sportier look.

A special flap is fitted in the fuel tank opening to prevent a diesel-powered vehicle being inadvertently filled up with petrol. It can only be opened by the diesel fuel pump nozzle, which has a larger diameter. The flap closes automatically after refuelling.

The diesel particulate filter can remove up to 99 percent of all soot particles from the exhaust gas. This does not require any additives. The reduction of particulate emissions conserves the environment and in some countries has significant tax benefits.

The Direct-Steer system adds to the comfort of speed-sensitive power steering with a variable steering ratio dependent on the steering wheel angle. On winding roads this leads e.g. to more agile vehicle response and increases straight-line stability.

What's the best way to save fuel and reduce emission levels? By switching off the engine whenever it's not needed. Engine off when the vehicle is stationary, engine on when you release the brake. This is normal procedure in our vehicles.

Automatically switching off the engine when stationary, for example in tailbacks or at traffic lights, lowers fuel consumption and emissions and saves fuel costs. The ECO start/stop function operates particularly effectively, quickly and quietly.

We prioritise safety in our vehicles – beginning with the standard equipment. Proven systems protect you in situations that can occur daily in road traffic.

The braking system increases driving comfort and safety. On one hand it helps to perform critical braking manoeuvres with the basic function of the ABS anti-lock braking system while convenience functions make coping with daily driving situations easier on the other.

By priming the brakes the brake linings are already applied should the driver takes his foot abruptly off the accelerator. The valuable time won as a result shortens the brakes' response time and can thus reduce the stopping distance.

The system also intervenes to support the driver on uphill gradients, thereby helping to make the journey more relaxed. The Hill-Start Assist function prevents the vehicle from rolling back when moving from the brake to the accelerator pedal

And finally, the brake drying function provides a further boost to safety: In wet conditions, short braking impulses, unnoticeable to the driver, ensure that the water film which forms on the brake discs in wet conditions is removed and the response time of the brakes can be considerably shortened.

A red flashing warning light can help to significantly shorten the reaction time of road users following behind in an emergency situation. The LED adaptive brake lights thus make an important contribution to preventing rear-end collisions.

They are activated if the initial speed is greater than 50 km/h and Brake Assist BAS has recognised an emergency braking situation; or the brake pressure is more than 75 percent of the maximum. In addition, the hazard warning lights are activated when the vehicle comes to a standstill if the speed prior to braking exceeded 70 km/h.

Our vehicles offer a wealth of safety technology. Some of them you'll never get to see. And this is a good thing as they are only there for worst case scenarios. To protect you and your passengers.

In a collision the airbags help to protect the upper torso and head of driver and front passenger. They also help to stabilise the whole body. This can mitigate the risk of severe injuries in an accident. The deployment of the airbags is commensurate to the severity of the impact.

The integrated automatic seat occupancy sensor can activate or deactivate the front-passenger airbag independently of the recognised seat occupancy using a pressure-sensitive sensor mat according to classification result. The front-passenger airbag is deactivated with a rear-facing child seat, for example.

In particular during emergency braking the anti-locking braking system (ABS) provides more driving safety by preventing the wheels from locking. This assists the driver in maintaining control of the vehicle, for instance during evasive manoeuvres or when braking on a slippery road.

In particular on long trips and when driving at night this system can increase driving safety. Based on the driver's actions ATTENTION ASSIST recognises typical signs of fatigue and severe inattentiveness and issues visual and audible warnings of impending microsleep.

The brake pad wear indicator warns the driver with text and a symbol if the brake pads on the front axle brakes are worn and need to be replaced.

If a predetermined crash-force is reached, the brake pedal is moved forward automatically and adopts its braking position. Any further movement in the footwell is prevented. This reduces the risk of injury.

In critical situations, can reduce the danger of the vehicle skidding on icy surfaces or when carrying out extreme driving or evasive manoeuvres, for example. Amongst other measures, the wheels are separately braked to do this. This makes it easier for the driver to keep the vehicle under control.

The ESP®-based system provides more stability and handling safety in particular when accelerating on bends. If the ESP® sensors register a tendency to understeer, it can reduce this tendency with a targeted brake intervention on the inside wheels.

A handle below the light switch allows simple and safe operation of the electric parking brake. For even more convenience and safety the electric parking brake is automatically engaged or released in certain situations. The brake is released automatically when moving off in transmission position "D" or "R".

Should a pedestrian collide with the front end of the vehicle, the rear section of the engine bonnet is raised. The increased distance to the engine compartment assemblies creates additional deformation space, which can reduce the risk of injury to the pedestrian in certain scenarios.

The knee airbag on the driver’s side helps to protect the legs in a collision and also stabilises the entire body. It can thus help mitigate the potential severity of injuries sustained in an accident.

Permanent monitoring of the tyre pressure increases driving safety and the service life of the tyres. The tyre pressure on all four wheels is monitored by sensors and shown on the multifunction display.

In a side-on collision the side airbags help to protect the upper torso and pelvic area of driver and front passenger. They also help to stabilise the whole body. This can mitigate the risk of severe injuries in an accident.

The seat occupancy sensor can suppress the deployment of the airbags on the passenger's side when the front passenger's seat is unoccupied.

In a side-on collision the window airbag covers the side windows and can help reduce the risk of the head impacting the sides of the vehicle or intruding objects. It protects the driver, front passenger and passengers on the outer rear seats.

The Audio 20 USB with radio, dual tuner and telephone keypad also allows mobile devices to be networked via Bluetooth®.

This interface features a hands-free facility and audio streaming for playing music files. It also allows you to transfer contacts from your mobile phone to the head unit, provided this function supports PBAP (Phonebook Access Profile).

Boasting 5 speakers and Frontbass technology, the sound system produces a brilliant and balanced sound experience. The subwoofers are integrated into the bodyshell and use the volume of the longitudinal members as a resonance chamber for first-class bass reproduction.

To provide a clear view, fogged or icy exterior mirrors are automatically heated for about 10 minutes after engine start in low outside temperatures. Both power exterior mirrors can be adjusted from the driver's seat.

The windows can opened and closed electrically with switches in the armrests of the doors. A simple tap of a switch is enough. A re-opening function helps to prevent injury and damage when closing. The switches in the driver's door control all windows.

The tail lamps show a characteristic design by day and night. They extend into the sides and accentuate the design of the rear while also increasing detectability. Energy-saving LED technology is used for the tail lamp, brake lamp and integral rear fog lamp .

If the rear windscreen is iced or fogged up, the heating restores a clear view to the rear in no time at all. The timer adjusts the operating time of the heating to the outside temperature and the vehicle speed.

A separate button on the chrome-design electronic key allows unlocking the boot lid conveniently. This makes it easier to open and load the boot, e.g. when shopping.

The halogen headlamps can be optimally adjusted to suit the vehicle load with the manual headlamp range adjustment facility. This increases both operating convenience and active safety.
 

After tapping lightly on the wiper lever, the windscreen wipers sweep once across the front windscreen, removing condensation.

The TIREFIT tyre sealant is a fast interim solution and allows continuing on to the nearest workshop in the event of a tyre puncture. It is filled into the flat tyre using a tyre inflation compressor located in the boot and seals tyre punctures.

The use of tinted glass as opposed to conventional glass reduces heat irradiation of the interior. This means that less energy is required to keep the interior constantly at the desired temperature.

The immobiliser prevents the vehicle from being started with anything but the proper key. It is activated when the key is removed from the ignition and automatically switches itself off when the ignition is switched on.

The doors and the liftgate are automatically locked while the vehicle is moving to prevent unauthorised opening from the outside. Following an accident a crash sensor immediately unlocks all doors to allow the emergency services to rescue the passengers quickly.

Manual head-restraint and longitudinal adjustment for the front seats; seat height and backrest angle are electrically adjustable. Partially power-adjustable 4-way seat adjustment offers comfort and safety.

The stowage compartment in the front centre console is fitted with a 12V socket to allow MP3 players, mobile phones or other electrical devices to be plugged in. The cover slides to the fore to open the illuminated compartment. A simple nudge is enough to close it again.

The outside temperature is indicated on the multifunction display of the instrument cluster. This ensures, for example, that the driver is informed when temperatures drop close to freezing point and particular attention should be paid to the road conditions. 

If no one is sitting in the front passenger seat or a child seat is detected, the front passenger airbag is automatically deactivated. In this way small children are protected from injuries caused by the inflating front passenger airbag. Dependable detection is assured through a pressure sensor. 

Eye-catching highlights when getting into the vehicle: The high-quality door sill panels with a stainless steel look and "Mercedes-Benz" lettering protect the entrance area and make the appearance of the vehicle more individual.

The status indicator lets the driver know whether all rear-seat passengers are securely belted in. The multifunction display on the instrument cluster indicates how many rear-seat seat-belt catches are engaged with their corresponding clasps.

Numerous lights ensure optimum visibility in the vehicle, even when light conditions are poor. The time lag function causes the interior lights to remain illuminated for a short time after closing the vehicle door.

The system allows simple, fast and safe attachment of ISOFIX child seats for optimal protection of the child in an accident. TopTether anchoring points offer added safety by anchoring the child seat behind the rear head restraints.

The childproof locks can be used to prevent the doors and the windows from being opened in the rear. The locks are set manually for the rear doors and electrically for the power windows.

In order to maintain the interior climate at a constant level, the THERMATIC system automatically controls the temperature, air quantity and air distribution. Multiple sensors ensure the air is heated or cooled to the required temperature by registering the internal and outside temperature, and additionally the sun's rays penetrating the vehicle.

THERMATIC automatic climate control with 2 climate zones provides individual climate control. Separate options for temperature and air flow are available for each side. The air is cooled or heated automatically according to setting.

The five head restraints provide occupant protection aligned with each seat. They all are manually height-adjustable. The front-seat head restraints can also be moved horizontally.

The smallest possible distance between head and restraint helps to reduce the risk of whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision. This distance can be reduced by pulling the head restraint towards you. To extend the distance, press a release button on the outside of the head restraint to unlock the mechanism. The front-seat head restraints can be height-adjusted by approx. 55 mm using four catches.

The steering column is manually adjustable for height and reach, enabling drivers to adjust the position of the steering wheel to suit their requirements.

The 12 ergonomic function keys of the multifunction steering wheel control the display menus in the instrument cluster and Audio/COMAND Online display. On the right side the driver adjusts the volume for audio devices, telephone and navigation system.

The trip computer provides important information about the drive. It allows calling up and displaying operating range, average fuel consumption and real-time fuel consumption on the multifunction display. It is operated conveniently by pushing a button on the steering wheel. 

Driver and front passenger both have a 3-point safety belt which can be adjusted for height and which has pyrotechnical belt tensioning and belt force limiters. Both outer rear seats are fitted with three-point seat belts including belt tensioning and belt force limiters.

The side-pivoting sun visors for driver and front passenger protect against irritating incidence of light from the front or the side. An illuminated vanity mirror is integrated into the inner face of each.
