A combination of various security features helps to effectively warn of break-ins, theft and towing. An alarm is triggered upon unauthorised intrusions or changes in the vehicle's attitude.

The system triggers an alarm if an unauthorised person opens one of the vehicle doors, the tailgate or the bonnet. The alarm also sounds if the ignition lock is shorted/removed or the foot brake applied.

The tow-away protection function responds to a change in the position of the vehicle and can be deactivated – for example, if the car is being towed or loaded onto another vehicle

The combination of Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist bears a two-fold safety benefit. The systems can warn drivers visually and audibly of vehicles in the blind spot and use pulsating steering-wheel vibrations to indicate inadvertent lane departures.

Inattention and fatigue can result in you drifting out of your lane without realising it. The system can recognise inadvertent lane departures and can warn the driver with pulsating steering-wheel vibrations.

Blind Spot Assist visualizes one of the major hazards in traffic. If a vehicle is detected in the blind spot, a red triangle appears in the exterior mirror. Should the driver fail to notice the visual clue and activate the turn indicator, the system issues an additional audible warning.

Thanks to the approximately 20 percent tighter tuning of the springs and damping, the lateral dynamics of the vehicle are improved, thereby facilitating an even sportier driving style.

For the off-road comfort suspension the vehicle body is raised by 30 millimetres. This leads to better off-road capability through the greater ground clearance, a higher seat position with a better overview and a more striking off-road look. Additionally this suspension variant has its own steering tuning.

Not available for the GLA 200 CDI, GLA 220 CDI, GLA 200, GLA 250 and GLA 45 AMG 4MATIC.

Active Parking Assist makes finding a parking space as well as parking and leaving a parallel or on-end parking space easier. It automatically steers the vehicle into parking spaces and spares the driver the steering and braking actions.

Active Parking Assist is automatically engaged when driving forwards at speeds up to 35 km/h. If the vehicle travels slower than 30 km/h, the system indicates with a "P" symbol and a directional arrow in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster that it has located a suitable parking space. By default the system looks on the right side of the road, when the left-side turn indicator is activated also on the left side of the road.

If the driver changes into reverse gear, confirms the parking selection shown and drives no faster than 10 km/h, the active Parking Assist carries out the steering manoeuvre on its own. The driver can at any time intervene and correct the parking manoeuvre.

The electronic parking aid PARKTRONIC monitors the front and rear of the vehicle during manoeuvring and warns the driver when it detects a potential collision. It is active at a speed of up to 18 km/h.

The innovative driver assistance system automatically helps drivers to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front and unburdens them on long journeys and in stop-and-go traffic. COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS warns of falling below the safe following distance visually and audibly.

In stop-and-go traffic, DISTRONIC PLUS applies the brakes automatically – if necessary, until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Automatic braking is applied with a deceleration of up to 5 m/s2 As soon as the traffic situation improves, DISTRONIC PLUS automatically accelerates back up to the preset speed if the driver presses briefly on the accelerator or flicks the cruise control lever.

If DISTRONIC PLUS identifies that heavy braking is required, an intermittent warning tone is sounded and a warning symbol lights up in the instrument panel. This alerts the driver to pay close attention and apply the brakes if necessary. To move off again after coming to a complete stop, the driver only needs to pull the cruise control lever or tap the accelerator.

DISTRONIC PLUS combined with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST gives COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS. It has an additional function. If there is a lasting danger of a collision and the driver fails to react, the system can also execute autonomous braking at speeds of up to 200 km/h, thereby reducing impact of an accident with a vehicle ahead that is slower or is coming to a stop.

The fire extinguisher is mounted easily accessible at the front of the driver's seat.

The system is able to identify critical handling situations in advance and initiate preventive measures for occupant protection in the event of an impending accident. These include e.g. the reversible belt tensioning or the automatic closing of any open windows.

it systematically accesses the sensors of existing systems such as ESP® or BAS. Their sensors are able to detect typical critical driving situations and provide the appropriate information to the PRE-SAFE® system, thereby complementing the standard safety systems.

Examples include the securing of the driver and front passenger in their seats at an early stage by electric belt tensioners to prevent undesirable body movements; or the almost complete closure of the side windows and sliding sunroof to protect occupants from any objects entering the vehicle.

After an accident has been avoided and the vehicle has returned to an even and controlled state the reversible protective measures are cancelled. The safety belts are slackened and the other adjusted systems can be returned to the desired position by the occupants.

Run-flat tyres do not to need to be changed immediately in the event of a puncture. It is possible to drive on without a major loss in comfort – depending on the load for up to 80 kilometres at a top speed of 80 km/h.

Permanent monitoring of the tyre pressure increases driving safety and the service life of the tyres. The tyre pressure on all four wheels is monitored by sensors and shown on the multifunction display.

Reverse parking and manoeuvring is considerably easier and safer using the rear-view camera. It automatically switches on when reverse gear is engaged and shows the driver the surroundings behind the vehicle with dynamic guidelines on the CENTRAL MEDIA DISPLAY.

The chest of the rear-seat passengers is protected by the sidebags in a side-on collision. They are integrated into the rear side panelling and inflate at chest height between the side of the vehicle and the occupants.

With twelve speakers including a subwoofer, a 9-channel DSP amplifier and an output of 450 watts the Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround sound system in conjunction with audio devices provides a perfect listening experience in stereo as well as in the DTS and Dolby Digital-5.1 formats on all seats. The automatic volume control adapts the sound in line with the car’s current speed.

A universal interface in the armrest lets you connect mobile phones conveniently to the vehicle's speaker phone. To do so, just insert the mobile phone into the a phone cradle (accessory) matching the device.

The cradles are available as accessories and can be swapped out in a few seconds with one click if you get a different mobile phone. The use of the vehicle aerial ensures optimum reception and transmission.

The Convenience Telephony system lets you control the functions of the mobile phone with the controller in the centre console, the multifunction steering wheel or the LINGUATRONIC voice control system (part of the optional COMAND Online). The CENTRAL MEDIA DISPLAY serves as the screen. In addition, the battery is recharged.

The service (free of charge for three years, available in 12 countries) allows receiving up to date and accurate traffic information in real time for optimised dynamic route guidance and precisely calculated arrival times. The search function of the COMAND online optional extra makes locating points of interest nearby or at the destination quick and easy. Grading symbols help the user to select restaurants, hotels, points of interest and tourist routes.

The software also provides additional multimedia information about the ViaMichelin POIs. In addition, annual updates of the ViaMichelin travel guide can be downloaded free of charge via the Mercedes-Benz Shop at http://shop.mercedes-benz.com. This shop also offers other travel guide products.

This feature allows the connection of a mobile phone using the Bluetooth® SAP (SIM Access Profile) protocol or direct operation by inserting a SIM card into the integral SIM card reader. Use of the vehicle's external aerial ensures better reception.

The high light output of the bi-xenon headlamps with headlamp washer system improves visibility in the dark decisively. Dynamic headlamp range control results in considerably improved illumination of the roadway without dazzling oncoming traffic.

The bi-xenon headlamps use xenon technology for the dipped and high beams. As a result the dipped beams provide better illumination of the edges of the roadway while the high beams provide a significantly increased headlamp range.

Furthermore, the bi-xenon headlamps have a longer service life than conventional headlamps. LEDs are used in the indicators that are integrated into the bi-xenon headlamps as well as in the rear lamp unit (brake lamp, indicator, reversing light, rear fog lamp). The daytime driving lamps, parking lights and side lights use fibre optic technology.

For convenient loading and unloading the EASY-PACK liftgate can be opened and closed at the push of a button. To prevent the liftgate from hitting anything, it can be stopped in any position and its opening angle can be restricted to roof level.

This restriction of the opening angle is set by pressing and holding the closing button. The liftgate is closed by pushing a button on the bottom edge of the liftgate. If any part of the load obstructs the closing, the process is stopped automatically.Manual opening and closing is possible at any time using the release handle on the liftgate.

It consists of a fixed panoramic glass rear section and an electrically operated sliding glass front section for ventilation of the interior as required.

When the sunroof is opened using the switch, the wind deflector is raised. Then the sunroof is raised upwards and slides back over the fixed glass roof section at the rear. In addition, two electric roller sunblinds provide shade for the passengers in bright sunshine.

The heated windscreen washer nozzles and hoses effectively protect the system against freezing to allow easier cleaning of the windscreen even in low temperatures.

By means of an adjustable lumbar support the backrest curvature of the seats can be adjusted to suit the personal requirements of the driver and passenger, thereby improving ergonomics and seating comfort.

Two air cushions are integrated into both front seats; they can be inflated or deflated as desired through two control valves to give individually adjusted support for the lumbar spine. The air cushions can also be adjusted for height. The adjustable lumbar support is operated via a 4-way switch on the outer surface of the cushion.

On cold days the seat heating for driver and front passenger quickly provides cosy warmth as desired. The occupants each have a choice between three heating levels at the push of a button.

Three red control lamps in the operating switches indicate the activated level. After about eight minutes the system switches automatically from level 3 to level 2, after about ten minutes from level 2 to level 1. The heating is switched off automatically from level 1 after about 20 minutes, and when the battery capacity is too low. To manually switch of seat heating, the operating switch is simply pushed repeatedly until all red control lamps go out.

The vehicle interior can be warmed up or ventilated even before the start of the journey with the optional auxiliary heater – using a programmable timer or the optional remote control.
